As of Monday, May 16, 2022, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of fifty (50) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month.

Among the fifty (50) recalls the NHTSA has announced this May comes news of the following:
Hyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 215,171 model year 2013-2014 Hyundai Sonata Sedans marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.
Recall Category: Fuel System, Gasoline – Low Pressure Fuel Hose may crack and leak
NHTSA Safety Notification 22V312000 reports the Low Pressure Fuel Hose that connects the Low Pressure Fuel Pump to the direct injection Fuel Pump may crack over time, due to heat generated within the Engine Compartment.
According to the NHTSA, a cracked Fuel Hose may leak fuel, which can increase the risk of a fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Hyundai Dealers will replace the Low Pressure Fuel Hose, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 5, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Hyundai’s designation for this recall is 227. Please note: this recall replaces NHTSA recall number 20V-121.
Hyundai Vehicles previously repaired under NHTSA recall 20V-121 that did not receive a replacement Fuel Hose will need to have this new recall remedy performed.
