US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Bakkavor USA, a Charlotte, North Carolina establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Whole Foods Market Red Lentil Dal products from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Red Lentil Dal products are subject to this recall:

  • Whole Foods Market Red Lentil Dal, packaged in 12-ounce plastic trays with a use-by date of 4/15/2022, 4/17/2022, 4/18/2022, 4/19/2022, 4/22/2022, 4/24/2022, 4/25/2022 or 4/26/2022

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Red Lentil Dal products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Red Lentil Dal products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold from Whole Foods Market stores in AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV and WY, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Bakkavor USA, has recalled certain batch/lots of Whole Foods Market Red Lentil Dal products from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

In this case, the Whole Foods Market Red Lentil Dal contains Pickled Curry Cauliflower, an ingredient produced by Doux South Specialties, LLC and used by Bakkavor USA to produce the recalled food. Due to the fact that the Pickled Curry Cauliflower is reportedly contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Red Lentil Dal identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Whole Foods Market Red Lentil Dal products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Lentil Dal to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
