As of Saturday, April 23, 2022, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of sixty-three (63) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month.

Among the sixty-three (63) recalls the NHTSA has announced in April comes news of the following:
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (“DTNA”), a Portland, Oregon establishment and a subsidiary of Daimler AG of Stuttgart, Germany, has recalled an estimated 2,294 model year 2021-2023 Western Star 47X, 2020-2023 Western Star 49X and 2021-2022 Western Star 57X Trucks equipped with side air intakes on the hood and marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.
Recall Category: Structure – Side Air Intake Cover may detach
NHTSA Safety Notification 22V227000 reports the Stainless Steel Cover on the Side Air Intake may loosen and detach from the vehicle.
According to the NHTSA, a detached Side Air Intake Cover may cause a road hazard and increase the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Daimler Trucks Dealers will replace replace the Stainless Steel Cover, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 5, 2022. Owners may contact DTNA Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-547-0712 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. DTNA’s designation for this recall is FL-925.
