US FlagCanada FlagUS/Bethesda & Canada/Ottawa: GE Appliances, a Louisville, Kentucky establishment and a subsidiary of the Haier Company, recalls an estimated total 157,300 GE-branded Free-Standing French Door Refrigerators in Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel (approximately 155,000 in the US and approximately 2,300 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to suspected component detachment and consequential tip-over with consequential risks of crush, entrapment, laceration, concussion, bone fractures, Traumatic Brain Injury (“TBI”) and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These GE-branded Free-Standing French Door Refrigerators may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all American states and Canadian provinces.

According to the CPSC, GE Appliances has recalled an estimated total 157,300 of GE-branded Free-Standing French Door Refrigerators in Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel (approximately 155,000 in the US and approximately 2,300 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to suspected component detachment and consequential tip-over and consequential risks of crush, entrapment, laceration, concussion, bone fractures, Traumatic Brain Injury (“TBI”) and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, all serious risks to the health and safety of people who utilize the Appliances in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

The firm has received seventy-one (71) reports of the Freezer Drawer Handle detaching, resulting in thirty-seven (37) reported injuries, including three (3) serious fall injuries.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled GE-branded Free-Standing French Door Refrigerators, please contact GE Appliances to determine if your appliance is part of the recall and to schedule a free in-home service call to have the Freezer’s Handle Mounting Fasteners replaced and the handle re-installed and for instructions for safe use pending a repair. GE Appliances is contacting all known (i.e., registered) purchasers directly.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat crush, entrapment, laceration, concussion, bone fractures, Traumatic Brain Injury (“TBI”) and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury.
