US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Skippy Foods, LLC, an Austin, Minnesota establishment and subsidiary of Hormel Foods, recalls an estimated 161,692 pounds (approximately 9,353 cases) of Skippy branded Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread, Skippy branded Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy branded Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein from the American marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Peanut Butter products are subject to this recall:

  • Skippy branded Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter, packaged in 40 ounce jars with a best-if-used-by date code of MAY0423 or MAY0523
  • Skippy branded Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter – Club Pack, consisting of two (2)-40 ounce jars with a best-if-used-by date code of MAY0523
  • Skippy branded Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter, packaged in 16.3 ounce jars with a best-if-used-by date code of MAY0623 or MAY0723
  • Skippy branded Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein, packaged in 14 ounce jars with a best-if-used-by date code of MAY1023

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Skippy Peanut Butter products may have been marketed, distributed and sold in the US states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Skippy Foods has recalled an estimated 161,692 pounds of Skippy branded Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread, Skippy branded Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy branded Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein from the American marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Peanut Butter products identified above.

In general, if bone, glass, metal, plastic and/or rubber fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Skippy Peanut Butter, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Peanut Butter to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and sepsis.
