Among the fifty (50) recalls the European Union announced in its third report of March 2022, the following recall notification was made:

Fleur de Lis branded Papaya Brightening Gel

Fleur de Lis branded Papaya Brightening Gel products sold with a batch/lot code of 23136 but no listed EAN/barcode number. This recall alert was submitted by Sweden to the EU Safety Gateway under alert number A12/00448/22.

These Fleur de Lis branded Papaya Brightening Gel products are marketed, sold and delivered as skin-brightening gels and are packaged in 30 gram (~one ounce) tubes enclosed in a light brown colored cardboard box with a young woman’s face at one end of the box and a sliced Papaya at the other.

No EANs/barcodes, UPCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, model numbers, manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in the recalled Fleur de Lis branded Papaya Brightening Gel products is that they contain the chemical, Isobutylparaben, a substance that is forbidden under EU regulation for this application. Specifically, the European Commission on Endocrine Disruption believes there is strong evidence that Isobutylparaben is toxic for reproduction and development, and may be particularly harmful to the male reproductive system due to its role as a potential human endocrine disruptor.

  • As a consequence, a person utilizing these products in a reasonable manner expected with their intended design and anticipated use could suffer serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury and/or genotoxicity and/or mutagenesis.

Proposed Remedy:
Due to these defects, the recalled Fleur de Lis branded Papaya Brightening Gel products do not reportedly comply with the health and safety requirements of Europe’s Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Consequently, a stop-sell order has been placed on these Fleur de Lis branded Papaya Brightening Gel products within the European marketplace. You should not market, sell or consume these recalled cosmetic products.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fleur de Lis branded Papaya Brightening Gel products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store or online outlet where you purchased it for a refund.

If you have a medical emergency, please contact 1-1-2, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat skin damage and mitigate risks of genotoxicity and/or mutagenesis.
