US FlagUS/Washington: The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”), a statutory regulatory and food safety authority, issues formal a Public Health Alert for various ready-to-eat (“RTE”) Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw with Chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risks of risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw with Chicken & Noodle products were produced on or about 3/03/22, 3/04/22, 3/05/22 or 3/06/22 and are subject to this warming:

  • Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw with Chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing, packaged in 12-ounce plastic tray packages with a use-by date of 03/09/22, 03/10/22, 03/11/22, or 03/12/22

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, its Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) has issued a formal Public Health Alert for various ready-to-eat (“RTE”) Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw with Chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing due to suspected plastic fragment contamination

The products are from various establishments and bear establishment number “P-6247” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

These Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw were known to be marketed, distributed and sold to retail locations in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the USDA, its Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) has issued a formal Public Health Alert for various ready-to-eat (“RTE”) Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw with Chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing due to suspected plastic fragment contamination. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Crunchy Slaw products identified above.

This Public Health Alert was issued when an FSIS inspected establishment received notification from their salad dressing supplier that the salad dressing, which is regulated by FDA, may contain hard plastic fragments. The establishment then notified FSIS of the issue. FSIS and the US Food Drug Administration (“FDA”) are coordinating on this situation.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
