Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Savaria Concord Lifts Inc., a Brampton, Ontario establishment and Garaventa (Canada) Ltd., a subsidiary of Savaria Corporation and a Surrey, British Columbia establishment, recall an estimated 4,383 units of Savaria branded and an estimated 1,774 units of Garaventa branded Residential Elevators from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected entrapment hazard with consequential risks of laceration, traumatic brain injury (“TBI” or “concussion”), bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain Savaria and Garaventa Residential Elevators marketed, sold and delivered in Canada as follows:

  • Savaria and Garaventa Residential Elevators, consisting of consumer grade elevators to be used in residential dwellings:
    • Garaventa MR Residential Elevators
    • Garaventa HR Residential Elevators
    • Savaria Concord Residential Elevators
    • Savaria Infinity Residential Elevators
    • Savaria Eclipse Residential Elevators
    • Savaria Gearlift Residential Elevators
    • Savaria Kwiklift Residential Elevators
    • Savaria Ultimo Residential Elevators

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to Health Canada, young children can become entrapped in the space between the Exterior Landing (i.e., the Hoistway) door and the Interior Elevator Car Door or Gate if there is a hazardous gap, and suffer serious injuries or death when the Elevator is called to another floor when utilizing the Elevator in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Savaria or Garaventa Residential Elevators, please keep unsupervised young children away from the recalled Elevators. If the hazard exists, Savaria / Garaventa will send owners Space Guards at no cost to the you. Support with measurement and installation is also available from the company upon request.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat entrapment, amputation, laceration, crush, concussion, bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury.
