Among the eighty-one (81) recalls the NHTSA announced in February came news of the following:

Logo - Ford Motor Company ("Ford")Ford Motor Company (“Ford”), a Dearborn, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 18,078 model year 2022 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Fuel System, Gasoline – Fuel Filler Tube may detach in apparent contravention of US FMVSS 301

NHTSA Safety Notification 22V088000 reports the Fuel Filler Tube may detach during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 301, “Fuel System Integrity.”

Logo - LincolnAccording to the NHTSA, a detached fuel filler tube can result in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Ford Dealers will install a Fuel Vapor Line Redundant Locking Clip, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 4, 2022. Owners may contact Ford Customer Service toll-free at 1-866-436-7332 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Ford’s designation for this recall is 22C02.
