US FlagCanada FlagMexico FlagUS/Washington, Canada/Ottawa & Mexico/Mexico City: Fitbit LLC (f/k/a Fitbit, Inc.), a San Francisco, California establishment, recalls an estimated 1,693,000 Fitbit branded Ionic Smartwatches (approximately 1,000,000 in the US, approximately 70,561R in Canada and approximately 5,073 in Mexico) due to overheating and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain Fitbit Ionic Smartwatch products, as follows:

  • The recalled Smartwatches were sold with a polyurethane band, a 1.4-inch color LCD screen and in slate blue/burnt orange, charcoal/smoke gray, blue gray/silver gray, and a special edition co-branded with Adidas in ink blue/silver gray, color/styles. The Smartwatch tracks the activity, heart rate and sleep of the wearer. For the Ionic device, the specific model number of “FB503” can be found printed on the back of the device near where the Band attaches. The brand, “Fitbit” can be found printed on the front of the Ionic Smartwatch:
    • Ionic FB503CPBU Smartwatch, sold in an slate blue/burnt orange color scheme
    • Ionic FB503GYBK Smartwatch, sold in an charcoal/smoke gray color scheme
    • Ionic FB503WTGY Smartwatch, sold in an blue gray/silver gray color scheme
    • Ionic FB503WTNV Smartwatch, sold as the Adidas edition, in an ink blue & ice gray/silver gray color scheme

==> No barcodes, UPCs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the lithium-ion battery in the recalled Ionic Smartwatches can overheat with consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation, respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fitbit Ionic Smartwatch products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact Fitbit to receive pre-paid packaging to return your Smartwatch. Upon receipt of the device, you will be issued a refund of $299. Fitbit will also provide participating owners with a discount code for 40% off select Fitbit devices.
