Among the sixty-one (61) recalls the European Union announced in its third report of February 2022, the following recall notification was made:

Stiel branded MS 391 Gas Powered Chainsaws

Stiel branded MS 391 Gas Powered Chainsaws sold with a model number of MS 391, a batch/lot ranging from 190993963 to 190994982 but no listed EAN/barcode. This recall alert was submitted by Germany to the EU Safety Gateway under alert number A12/00306/22.

These Stiel branded Gas Powered Chainsaw products are marketed, sold and delivered as mid-range commercial grade gas-powered chainsaws for light or medium usage and feature a 64.1 cc (3.9 cubic inch) engine producing a stated 3.3 kW (4.4 Brake Horsepower or “BHP”) and weigh approximately 6.2 kilograms (13.67 pounds) without its cutting blade, fuel or oil. Each of the recalled orange and aluminum Chainsaws has black-colored handle trim, a fuel capacity of 600 cc (approximately 20.3 fluid ounces) and a chain oil capacity of 350 cc (approximately 11.8 fluid ounces).

No EANs/barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in the recalled Stiel branded Gas Powered Chainsaw products include the reported finding that when installing a Lever in the Chainsaw, there are discrepancies that can influence the triggering sensitivity of the Automatic Chain Brake.

As a consequence, utilizing the product in a reasonable manner expected with their intended design and anticipated use, the operator could suffer serious safety consequences requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death. Specifically, an operator could experience laceration, eye injury, concussion, bone fracture and/or amputation in the event of a device kickback during usage.

Proposed Remedy:
Due to these defects, these Stiel branded Gas Powered Chainsaws do not reportedly comply with Europe’s Machinery Safety Directive.

Consequently, a withdrawal of the chainsaw tool products from end user customers within the European Community has been ordered.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Stiel branded MS 391 Gas Powered Chainsaws, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store or online outlet where you purchased it for a refund.
