US FlagUS/Washington: Giant Bicycle Inc., a Newbury Park, California establishment, recalls an estimated 20,800 model year 2021 Giant and Liv branded Adult Bicycles from the American marketplace due to suspected loosening of the Adjustable Handlebar Stem on the Bicycles with consequential risks of falls, laceration, traumatic brain injury (“TBI” or “concussion”), bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves model year 2021 Giant Cypress DX, Giant Escape 3 Comfort, Liv Flourish FS 1 and Liv Alight 3 Comfort Bicycles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States, as follows:

  • 2021 Giant Cypress DX Bicycles
  • 2021 Giant Escape 3 Comfort Bicycles
  • 2021 Liv Flourish FS 1 Bicycles
  • 2021 Liv Alight 3 Comfort Bicycles

The recall Bicycles were sold in Metallic Black, Dark Silver, Dark Red/Burgundy, Grayish Blue, Plum or Sage colors, depending on the model. Recalled Bicycles have a serial number beginning with the letter “P” located on the underside of the bottom bracket of the frame, directly under the crank. The model name can be found printed on the top tube. The brand, “Giant” can be found printed on the down tube of the Cypress DX and Escape 3 Comfort models and Liv is printed on the down tube of the Alight 3 Comfort model. Liv is printed on the chainstay of the Flourish FS 1 model.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the Adjustable Handlebar Stem on the Bicycles can become loose, posing fall and injury hazards.

Giant Bicycle has received eighty-six (86) reports of the Bicycle’s Handlebar becoming loose including three (3) reports of riders falling off the bicycle.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Giant and/or Liv Adult Bicycles, please do not use them. Instead, please contact Giant Bicycle. Owners will be instructed to schedule an inspection and free repair at the authorized Giant Bicycles retailer where the consumer purchased the Bicycle or any other authorized Giant Bicycle retailer.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat falls, laceration, concussion, bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury.
