Among the eight-two (82) recalls the NHTSA announced in December came news of the following:

Logo - Hyundai Motor AmericaHyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 2,679 model year 2017-2019 Hyundai Ioniq Electric Vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System – Unintended Acceleration after Gas Pedal release

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V944000 reports an unstable Electrical Ground may cause the vehicle to enter a Fail-Safe Mode with reduced acceleration and power. In certain conditions while in Fail-Safe Mode, the vehicle may accelerate after the Gas Pedal is released.

According to the NHTSA, unexpected acceleration following Gas Pedal release can increase the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Hyundai Dealers will update the Electric Power Control Unit (“EPCU”) software and repair the Ground Wiring, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 4, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-371-9460 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Hyundai’s designation for this recall is 215.
