US FlagCanada FlagUS/Bethesda & Canada/Ottawa: Wayne/Scott Fetzer Company doing business as Scott Fetzer Consumer Brands, a Harrison, Ohio establishment recalls an estimated total 43,830 American Angler branded Electric Fillet Knives (approximately 43,200 in the US and approximately 630 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to reported trigger mechanism malfunction and consequential risks of laceration, contusion and amputation, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain American Angler Electric Fillet Knives, as follows:

  • American Angler Electric Fillet Knives. The recalled Knives are electric fillet knives designed for filleting fish. The product has either an orange and black handle with a stainless steel 8-inch (20 cm) freshwater blade or a gray and black handle with a titanium-coated 8-inch (20 cm) freshwater blade and can be identified by model number 32300 and the following serial numbers:
    • AEK-OBDS-003-1
    • AEK-OB-DS-008-1
    • AMK-KM-DS-003-1
    • AEK-OB-RB-004-1

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the Trigger Mechanism on the Electric Fillet Knife (“EFK”) units can become stuck in the ON position, posing laceration, contusion and amputation hazards. Scott Fetzer Consumer Brands has received twenty-three (23) reports of the EFK’s trigger mechanism malfunctioning but no injuries have been reported.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled American Angler Electric Fillet Knives, please do not use it. Instead, please immediately stop using the recalled Electric Fillet Knives, unplug the unit and then carefully cut the power cord.

You should then contact Scott Fetzer Consumer Brands to receive a free replacement Electric Fillet Knives by mail. You will need to provide your mailing address and proof of destruction by sending a photo of the recalled product and cut cord to the firm. After confirming the refund is in progress, you can then throw away the Knife in your trash.

Please note: this is a joint recall from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada (“HCSC”).
