US FlagUS/Washington: Royal Sovereign International Inc., a Rockleigh, New Jersey establishment, recalls an estimated 33,570 Royal Sovereign branded and Royal Centurian branded Portable Air Conditioners from the American marketplace due to suspected faulty drain motor and consequential risks of fire, burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain Royal Sovereign and Royal Centurian Portable Air Conditioners marketed, sold and delivered in the United States, as follows:

  • Model PAC-3012
  • Model PAC-3012 RB
  • Model ARP-3012
  • Model ARP-3012 KIT
  • Model ARP-3012S
  • Model ARP-3014
  • Model ARP-3014 SC

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Portable Air Conditioner products can be found on the Web site listed above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, Royal Sovereign International has recalled an estimated 33,570 Royal Sovereign and Royal Centurian Portable Air Conditioners from the American marketplace due to suspected faulty Drain Motors and consequential risks of fire, burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage to those who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

Royal Sovereign is aware of eleven (11) reports of the Portable Air Conditioners catching fire or smoking during use resulting in over $1 million in property damage, two (2) injuries and one (1) death due to smoke inhalation.

The recalled Portable Air Conditioners were reportedly sold online at Amazon.com and in Sears, Costco, Home Depot, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Best Buy stores US nationwide from March 2008 through August 2014 for approximately $290.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Royal Sovereign or Royal Centurian Portable Air Conditioners, please do not use them. Instead, kindly unplug the unit, follow the instructions online at http://www.Recall-PAC3012.com for properly severing the electrical cord rendering the unit unusable and contact Royal Sovereign for a pro-rated refund based on the age of the Portable Air Conditioner.

Warning: Unplug the Royal Sovereign and Royal Centurian Portable Air Conditioners before cutting the electrical cord. Failure to unplug the unit while it is electrically live could result in shock, electrocution or death.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory collapse.
