Additional information:
Among the one-hundred-and-six (106) recalls the European Union announced in its fourth report of December 2021, the following recall notification was made:
World Famous branded Tattoo Ink – Samuel O´Reilly Red, packaged in 30 ml (~one ounce) plastic bottles with a product code of B40404, a batch/lot designation of WFSOR 200407 but no listed barcode/EAN. This recall alert was submitted by Sweden to the EU Safety Gateway under alert number A12/01884/21.
These World Famous branded Tattoo Ink products are marketed, sold and delivered as pre-tinted tattoo inks suitable to subcutaneous placement in human skin for ornamental or identification purposes.
No EANs/barcodes, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, model numbers, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.
The type of hazards presented in these recalled World Famous branded Tattoo Ink products include the reported finding that the Tattoo Ink product contains the metal, Nickel (measured values: Nickel: 7.1 mg/kg). When a product such as this is in direct and prolonged contact with the skin such as is the case with a skin tattoo, it can cause skin irritation and induce sensitisation or elicit allergic responses.
As a consequence, a person who utilizes any of the recalled World Famous branded Tattoo Inks in a reasonable manner expected with their intended design and anticipated use may experience Anaphylaxis, with risks of severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious safety hazards, requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury.

Importantly, the Council of Europe Resolution ResAP (2008)1 on requirements and criteria for the safety of Tattoos and Permanent Make-Up, recommends that levels of Nickel in Tattoo Inks are to be kept as low as technically achievable.
Due to these defects, these World Famous branded Tattoo Inks do not reportedly comply with Europe’s safety standards for use as a chemical tattoo ink.
As a result of these reported defects, a withdrawal of the listed World Famous branded Tattoo Inks from the European marketplace has been ordered.
