Sera branded Kabak Dolmasis Recall [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: Les Entreprises Amira, a Saint-Laurent, Quebec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Sera branded Kabak Dolmasi Appetizers from the Canadian marketplace due to undeclared Cashew Nuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious health and safety hazard requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following canned Appetizers are subject to this recall:

  • Sera branded Kabak Dolmasi Appetizers, sold in 300 gram cans; affected batch/lots: all codes where Cashews are not declared on the label with a UPC of 8 690777 005708

Kabak Dolmasi Appetizers are a traditional Turkish dish made by stuffing a combination of ground beef or lamb, rice, onions and tomatoes into prepared zucchinis. The dish is flavored with parsley, salt and pepper. When served, this Appetizer is typically accompanied by yogurt (plain or garlic).

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Sera branded Kabak Dolmasi Appetizers were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Les Entreprises Amira has recalled certain batch/lots of Sera branded Kabak Dolmasi Appetizers from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected undeclared Cashew Nuts. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled meat and vegetable products identified above.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Sera branded Kabak Dolmasi Appetizers and could be allergic to their Cashew Nut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
