Harbor Breeze Belleisle Bay and Honeywell Rio Ceiling Fans Recall [US]

US FlagUS/Washington: HKC-US LLC (Hong Kong China Electric Appliance Manufacture Company), a Memphis, Tennasee establishment, recalls an estimated 77,900 Harbor Breeze Belleisle Bay and Honeywell Rio Ceiling Fans from the American marketplace due to suspected component detachment and consequential risks of debris projection, laceration, traumatic brain injury (“TBI” or “concussion”), bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves Harbor Breeze 52-inch Belleisle Bay and Honeywell 52-inch Rio Ceiling Fans, which are identical fans but branded separately marketed, sold and delivered in the United States, as follows:

  • The recalled Harbor Breeze Belleisle Bay Ceiling Fans have a brushed nickel housing finish (model number 40650) or an oil rubbed bronze housing finish (model number 40651). Both models have three matte black blades, a frosted, cased white glass bowl light and a 3-speed reversible motor with remote control
  • The recalled Honeywell Rio Ceiling Fans have an oil rubbed bronze housing finish (model number 50514), a champagne housing finish (model number 51623), a pewter housing finish (model number 51624), a brushed nickel housing finish (model number 50195), or a white housing finish (model number 51030). Each model has three black matte fan blades, a frosted, cased white glass bowl light, and a 3-speed reversible motor with remote control.

The model numbers for the recalled fans are printed on the silver rating label located on the top of the fan housing assembly.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the Fan Blades can detach from the detach while in use, posing an impact injury hazard to home owners or to those nearby when utilizing the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

As of press time, the firm had received sixty (60) reports of the Blades detaching from the Fan, including three (3) reports of the Blades causing property damage to drywall. No injuries had been reported.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Harbor Breeze 52-inch Belleisle Bay and/or Honeywell 52-inch Rio Ceiling Fans, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact Hong Kong China Electric Appliance Manufacture Company (“HKC”) to confirm your Fan is under the scope of the recall by providing the firm a photo of the Fan and date code. You will then be instructed to disconnect the Fan, provide a photo of the disconnected Fan to HKC and dispose of it in the trash or recycle. You will then receive a free replacement Fan by mail.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat debris falls, laceration, concussion, bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury.
