US FlagUS/Washington: Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp., doing business as Margherita Meats, Inc., an Omaha, Nebraska establishment, recalls an estimated 10,990 pounds of ready-to-eat (“RTE”) Margherita Pepperoni products from the American marketplace due to suspected Bacillus cereus (“B. cereus”) contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Margherita Pepperoni products were reportedly produced and packaged on or about June 17, 2021 and are subject to this recall:

  • Margherita Pepperoni, sold in eight (8)-ounce plastic shrink-wrapped packages containing unsliced pepperoni with a batch/lot code of 1931C and a use-by date code of 12-14-21.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Margherita Pepperoni can be found on the Web site above.

These Margherita Pepperoni may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all US states, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the USDA, Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp., doing business as Margherita Meats, Inc., has recalled an estimated 10,990 pounds of ready-to-eat (“RTE”) Margherita Pepperoni products from the American marketplace due to suspected Bacillus cereus (“B. cereus”) contamination. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Pepperoni products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Margherita Pepperoni products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Bacillus cereus (“B. cereus”).
