Among the twenty-six (26) recalls the NHTSA has announced in December comes news of the following:

Logo - TennecoTenneco doing business as “DRiV” (formerly Tenneco Automotive and originally, Tennessee Gas Transmission Company), a Lake Forest, Illinois establishment, has recalled an estimated 1,306 MOOG Tie Rods, with part numbers EV801120 and EV800964, and NAPA NCP Tie Rods, with part number 2693957 marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Steering – Improperly heat-treated Tie Rods may fail

NHTSA Safety Notification 21E097000 reports the Tie Rods may not have been heat-treated properly, which can cause them to fail.

According to the NHTSA, Tie Rod failure can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Proposed Remedy:
DRiV will work with its distributor/retailer customers to replace the Tie Rods, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 13, 2021. Owners may contact Tenneco Customer Service toll-free at 1-877-489-6659 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information or recall.support@driv.com.
