Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Switzerland Cheese Marketing Inc., a Boucherville Quebec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Fromage de Bellelay brand Tête de Moine (Firm Ripened Cheese) from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Staphylococcus aurus contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Cheese products are subject to this recall:

  • Fromage de Bellelay branded Tête de Moine (Firm Ripened Cheese), packaged in ~0.440 kilogram portions with a batch/lot designation of L1002360169, a date of manufacture of 2021/OC/11, a best-before date code of 2022/FE/08 and a UPC of 97610900023670

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Cheese products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Switzerland Cheese Marketing has recalled certain batch/lots of Fromage de Bellelay branded Tête de Moine (Firm Ripened Cheese) from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Staphylococcus aurus contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled cheese products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fromage de Bellelay branded Tête de Moine (Firm Ripened Cheese) products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
