US FlagUS/Washington: Erie Meat Products Ltd., the Importer of Record and a Mississauga, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 1,224 pounds of Golden Maple branded Fully Cooked Chicken Bologna products that were reportedly imported and distributed without the benefit of Federal Inspection from the American marketplace with consequential risks of bacterial contamination, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Chicken Bologna products are thought to have been imported on or around November 15, 2021 and are subject to this recall:

  • Golden Maple branded Chicken Bologna, packed in 24-pound cases each containing twelve (12) two-pound vacuum-packed packages with a product code of 91203 and best-before date codes of 2023-APR-13, 2023-APR-18 and 2023-MAY-03.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the Chicken products subject to recall do not bear the USDA mark of inspection. The cases do, however, bear an Canada establishment seal of “713”.

These Golden Maple branded Chicken Bologna products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold to correctional institutions in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

The problem was discovered during routine US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) surveillance activities of imported products.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the subject Golden Maple branded Chicken Bologna products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the products to the distributor where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisoning.
