Nu-Pak Soup Mix Recall [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: Nu-Pak, Inc., a Boscobel, Wisconsin establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Nu-Pak branded Soup Mix from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected insect fragment contamination and consequential risks of bacterial infection, choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Soup Mix products are subject to this recall:

  • Nu-Pak branded Soup Mix, sold in 900 gram plastic bags with batch/Lot code of 10901D, a best-before date code 2022 MR 31 AD and a UPC of 0 66844 00159 7
  • Nu-Pak branded Soup Mix, sold in 900 gram plastic bags with batch/Lot code of 10111D, a best-before date code 2022 JAN 11 AD and a UPC of 0 66844 00159 7

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Soup Mixes are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Nu-Pak, Inc. has recalled certain batch/lots of Nu-Pak branded Soup Mix products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected insect fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Soup Mix products identified above.

In general, if glass, insects, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal. The reported presence of insect fragments could cause or contribute to bacterial infection and other serious illnesses.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Nu-Pak branded Soup Mix products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings and/or choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction.
