Inc., a Torrance, California establishment, recalls an estimated 1,400 Honda Pioneer 700, Honda Pioneer 1000 and Honda Talon 1000 Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (“ROVs”) equipped with Electric Power Steering from the American marketplace due to suspected steering function loss and consequential risks of falls, laceration, traumatic brain injury (“TBI” or “concussion”), bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves the 2021 Honda Pioneer 700, Pioneer 1000, and Talon 1000 Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (“ROVs”) equipped with Electric Power Steering marketed, sold and delivered in the United States, as follows:

  • 2021 Honda Pioneer 700, Pioneer 1000, and Talon 1000 recreational off-highway vehicles (“ROVs”) equipped with Electric Power Steering. The ROVs come in various colors including red, blue, green, gray and yellow. The brand, “HONDA” can be found printed on the front, sides and the rear of each vehicle and the model of each ROV is printed on a label located on both sides of the vehicle.

The Vehicle Identification Number (“VIN”) is stamped in the frame at the left rear below the tilt-up bed/seat on the Pioneer 700 and Pioneer 1000 ROVs and on the frame on the left side under the left front fender for the Talon 1000 ROVs.

    • The VIN range of affected ROVs include:
      • Honda Pioneer 700: 1HFVE02**M4700031-M4700694
      • Honda Pioneer 1000: 1HFVE04**M4500061-M4502219
      • Honda Talon 1000: 1HFVE05**M4200001- M4201598.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the recalled Honda ROVs can lose steering function, posing loss of control hazards to people who utilize the vehicles in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use. As a result, operators may experience falls, laceration, traumatic brain injury (“TBI” or “concussion”), bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury.

Honda has received one (1) report of a loss of steering function. As of press time, no injuries had been reported.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Honda Pioneer 700, Honda Pioneer 1000 and Honda Talon 1000 Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (“ROVs”), please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact an authorized Honda Powersports Dealer to schedule an appointment for a free inspection and repair to install a yoke joint and hardware for the steering shaft assembly. Honda is contacting all known purchasers directly.
