Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Jabbour Export/Import Ltd., an Edmonton, Alberta establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of AlBurj branded Tahina and Halawa from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Spreads are subject to this recall (in alphabetical order):

  • AlBurj (Arabic characters only) branded Tahina, sold in 800 gram tubs with a production date of 06/2021 and an expiry date of 11/2022 and a UPC of 6 217000 020646
  • AlBurj (Arabic characters only) branded Halawa Original (Arabic characters only), sold in 800 gram tubs with a production date of 06/2021 and an expiry date of 05/2023 and a UPC of 6 217000 020172
  • AlBurj (Arabic characters only) branded Halawa Pistachio Extra (Arabic characters only), sold in 800 gram tubs P with a production date of 06/2021 and an expiry date of 05/2023 and a UPC of 6 217000 020677
  • AlBurj (Arabic characters only) branded Tahina, sold in 800 gram tubs with a production date of 06/2021 and an expiry date of 05/2023 and a UPC of 6 217000 020646
  • AlBurj branded Tahina, sold in 18 kilogram pails with a production date of 06/2021 and an expiry date of 05/2023 and a UPC of 6 217000 020646

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These AlBurj branded Tahina and Halawa products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian province of Alberta, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Jabbour Export/Import has recalled certain batch/lots of AlBurj branded Tahina and Halawa from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Spreads identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled AlBurj branded Tahina and/or Halawa, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
