Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Salame Stick products are subject to this public health warning:

  • Citterio Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks All Natural, packaged in two (2)-ounce packages; affected batch/lots: all packages with a best-by date up to and including January 23, 2022. You can find the best-by date printed next to the product’s barcode/UPC of 0 035032 67502 5.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail / wholesale presentation.

These Salame Stick products may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all US states although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country including known exportation to Bermuda. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the USDA, its Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) has issued a Public Health Alert against serving or consuming certain batch/lot of ready-to-eat (“RTE”) Citterio Italian-style Salame Stick products marketed and sold by Euro Foods that may be contaminated with Salmonella. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled meat products identified above.

A formal recall was not requested because FSIS has not identified a specific contaminated batch/lot or lots, and it is believed that potentially affected products are no longer available to be directly purchased by retail consumers. This said, the subject Salame Stick products may still be in consumer freezers or chillers.

The FSIS has been working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) and state public health partners to investigate a multi-state outbreak of 21 Salmonella illnesses in eight (8) states with onset dates ranging from September 18, 2021 through October 3, 2021. The epidemiologic and traceback investigation has identified that sick people consumed Citterio Italian-style Salame Sticks produced by Euro Foods Inc.

==> For information about Salmonellosis (Salmonella poisoning), please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Citterio Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonosis.

Please note: while these Italian-Style Salame Sticks meat products may not be in retail stores anymore, it is important to check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.
