Additional information:
Among the nineteen (19) recalls the European Union announced in its first report of November 2021, the following recall notification was made:
Blaupunkt branded Electric Hoverboards / Elektromos Deszka, sold with a model designation of EHB206 and a barcode/EAN of 5 901750 503245. This recall alert was submitted by Hungary to the EU Safety Gateway under alert number A11/00093/21.
These Blaupunkt branded Electric Hoverboard products are marketed, sold and delivered as self-balancing scooters for use as a personal transport device for individuals. Each Hoverboard comes equipped with a Lithium Ion Battery (rated at 36 V 4 Ah/44 Wh), a Battery Charger (model designation XHK-916-42015), a stated maximum speed of 12 kilometers per hour and has a maximum weight capacity of 100 kilograms (approximately 220 pounds).
No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.
The type of hazards presented in these recalled Blaupunkt branded Electric Hoverboards include the reported finding that the products feature poor quality as the power cords, which are exposed to movement between the two motors, are routed through a steel pipe with burr edges at both ends. During the life of the Hoverboard, the insulation of the power cords will be damaged by the sharp edges to such an extend that the battery may short-circuit and explode during use.
As a consequence, any person who utilizes any of these recalled Hoverboards in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use may lose control and fall off the scooter and experience life-changing consequences, including but not limited to falls, laceration, traumatic brain injury (“TBI” or “concussion”), bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury.

Due to these defects, these Blaupunkt branded Electric Hoverboards do not reportedly comply with Europe’s Low Voltage Directive and of the European standards EN 60335-1, EN 60335-2 and EN 62133-2.
As a result of these reported defects, a withdrawal of these Blaupunkt branded Electric Hoverboard products from the European marketplace and a recall from end users in the European marketplace has been ordered.
