Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Antacid Medications are are subject to this recall:

  • TUMS Assorted Berries Extra Strength Tablets, each packaged in 750 mg bottles of 100 tablets with an NPN of 01967932, a batch/lot of 7B3G (sold individually and as part of Costco Club Packs – see note below) with an expiry date of August 2025
  • TUMS Assorted Berries Extra Strength Tablets, packaged of three (3) roll units containing eight (8) tablets with an NPN of 01967932, a batch/lot of CS6M and an expiry date of September 2025

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These TUMS Assorted Berries Extra Strength Tablets are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces, although it is always possible these over-the-counter (“OTC”) drugs had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, GSK Consumer Healthcare ULC has recalled certain batch/lots of TUMS Assorted Berries Extra Strength Tablets from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected to Metal Fragment contamination.

The company reported to Health Canada that it received a consumer complaint of a small metal wire fragment embedded in a tablet. Consuming a metal fragment poses a potential risk of choking or injury (such as cuts or tears in the mouth and digestive system).

The products were sold by Canadian stores and online retailers between October 2020 and January 2021. The 750 mg bottles of 100 tablets were sold individually and at Costco as part of a club pack of four (4) bottles with two different flavours. The exterior Club Pack packaging is labelled with different lot numbers (see below).

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled TUMS Assorted Berries Extra Strength Tablets, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction.
