Canada/Ottawa: Tai Foong International, doing business as TFI Foods Ltd., a Scarborough, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Northern King branded Shrimp Tempura and Thai Gold branded Shrimp Tempura products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Egg, Milk, Soy and Sulphites (Sulfites), all known allergens, sources of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious health and safety hazard requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Shrimp products are subject to this recall:

  • Northern King branded Shrimp Tempura, packaged in 26/30 count/pound 600 gram pouches; affected batch/lots: all codes where Egg, Soy, Milk and Sulphites are not declared on the label and a UPC of 0 61391 24216 5
  • Northern King branded Shrimp Tempura, packaged in 31/40 count/pound 600 gram pouches; affected batch/lots: all codes where Egg, Soy, Milk and Sulphites are not declared on the label and a UPC of 0 61391 12103 3
  • Northern King branded Shrimp Tempura, packaged in 31/40 count/pound 500 gram pouches; affected batch/lots: all codes where Egg, Soy, Milk and Sulphites are not declared on the label and a UPC of 0 61391 24242 4
  • Thai Gold branded Raw Tempura Battered Shrimp (Tail-on) 16/20 pieces/pound 1.135 kilogram pouches; affected batch/lots: all codes where Egg, Soy, Milk and Sulphites are not declared on the label and a UPC of 0 61391 22921 0
  • Thai Gold branded Raw Tempura Battered Shrimp (Tail-off) 16/20 pieces/pound 1.135 kilogram pouches; affected batch/lots: all codes where Egg, Soy, Milk and Sulphites are not declared on the label and a UPC of 0 61391 22923 4
  • Thai Gold branded Raw Tempura Battered Shrimp (Tail-on) 21/25 pieces/pound 1.135 kilogram pouches; affected batch/lots: all codes where Egg, Soy, Milk and Sulphites are not declared on the label and a UPC of 0 61391 24280 6
  • Thai Gold branded Raw Tempura Battered Shrimp (Tail-on) 26/30 pieces/pound 1.135 kilogram pouches; affected batch/lots: all codes where Egg, Soy, Milk and Sulphites are not declared on the label and a UPC of 0 61391 24281 3

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Shrimp products may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Shrimp Tempura and could be allergic to their Egg, Milk, Soy and/or Sulphites ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
