Canada/Ottawa: PataFoods Inc., a Newark, Delaware establishment doing business as Amara, recalls certain batch/lots of Amara branded Organic Smoothie Melts Infant Food – Carrot Raspberry Flavour from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Infant Food products are subject to this recall:

  • Amara branded Organic Smoothie Melts Infant Food – Carrot Raspberry Flavour, sold in 23 gram pouches with a best-before date code of 07/05/2023, a batch/lot code of CR21186 and a UPC of 8 57822 00746 1

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Organic Smoothie Melt products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Organic Smoothie Melt Baby Food products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Ontario although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, PataFoods Inc. doing business as Amara has recalled certain batch/lots of Amara branded Organic Smoothie Melts – Carrot Raspberry Flavour from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Organic Smoothie Melts identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction.
