NdfeB branded Magnetic Ball Toys

NdfeB branded Magnetic Ball Toys, packaged in clear plastic cubes and again in a shielded metal can. This recall alert was submitted by Poland to the EU Safety Gateway.

These NdfeB branded Magnetic Toy products are marketed, sold and delivered as consumer toys consisting of 5 mm metal balls with a high magnetic flux. Although the recalled Magnetic Toys may not be specifically targeted at children, they are nevertheless attractive to them due to their shiny light blue color and possibly resemblance to candy or other confectionery.

No EANs/barcodes, item numbers, best-before date codes, model numbers, manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled NdfeB branded Magnetic Ball Toy include the reported finding that the small magnetic balls that comprise the Toy can be swallowed or inhaled by infants, children or even pets.

If a child swallows more than one small high powered magnet, components of these Toys can stick together across the walls of the child’s intestine or other digestive tissue, which can lead to internal injuries and even death. These Magnets may need emergency surgical intervention to remove. Further, the Magnets may pose a choking hazard to young children due to small parts. Even post-ingestion, survivors can have long-term health consequences requiring medical care and rehabilitation.

As a consequence, any person who utilizes this Magnetic Toy in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use may experience life-changing consequences.

Due to these defects, these NdfeB branded Magnetic Ball Toys do not reportedly comply with Europe’s Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-1.

As a result of these reported defects, a ban on importation of these NdfeB branded Magnetic Ball Toys from the European marketplace has been ordered.
