According to the USDA, Demaiz, doing business as Mex-tamale Foods, has recalled an estimated 20,759 pounds of Mex-Tamales Foods Pork and Beef Tamales products from the American marketplace due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Sesame.

The Tamale products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 45434” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were shipped to retail locations in Northern California. The Tamale products are typically served to consumers from a deli counter at retailers.

The problem was discovered when US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) observed Sesame Seeds being added to the Tamale Sauce and determined that Sesame Seeds were not listed on the product labels.

As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Tamale products identified above.

==> For information about Sesame Allergy, please consult the “Allergens & Intolerances” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.
