US FlagUS/Washington: LG Energy Solution Michigan, Inc., a Holland, Michigan establishment and formerly LG Chem Michigan Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of LG Energy Solution, Ltd., in turn a wholly-owned subsidiary of LG Chem Ltd., recalls an estimated 10,000 LG Chem “RESU10H” Lithium-Ion Residential Energy Storage System Batteries from the American marketplace due to suspected overheat failure and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain LG Chem Model RESU 10H Lithium-Ion Storage Batteries that were installed as part of a Residential Energy Solar Panel System marketed, sold and delivered in the United States, as follows:

  • LG Chem Model RESU 10H Lithium-Ion Storage Batteries installed as part of a Residential Energy Solar Panel System. The recalled Batteries allow owners to capture and store energy from attached Solar Panels, are wall mounted and measure approximately 29 by 36 by 8 inches and weigh approximately 220 pounds. The LG logo can be found printed on the top left side of the front panel and the serial number of the recalled Storage Batteries begins with “R15563P3” and is located behind the access door of the RESU Home Battery.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Storage Batteries can be found on the Web site listed above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the recalled home Storage Batteries can overheat. If this defect occurs, it poses a risk of fire and smoke hazard. LG Energy Solution has received five (5) reports of the Lithium Storage Batteries smoking and catching on fire, resulting in property damage and one (1) injury. In addition, 2017-2019 RESU 10H were previously recalled for a fire hazard on December 16, 2020.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled LG Chem RESU10H Lithium-Ion Storage Batteries, please do not use them. Instead, please contact LG Energy Solution Michigan to schedule a free replacement. LG Energy Solution Michigan will arrange for modifications to recalled Batteries that are connected online to reduce the risk of overheating until they can be replaced with new Batteries. LG Energy Solution Michigan, its distributors, and its installers also are attempting to contact owners directly.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory collapse.
