US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Potandon Produce LLC, an Idaho Falls, Idaho establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Green Giant branded Fresh Whole White, Yellow and Red Onions from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Fresh Onions are subject to this recall:

  • Green Giant Fresh Whole Yellow Onions, packaged in two (2) pound bags with a UPC of 60580600120-8
  • Green Giant Fresh Whole Yellow Onions, packaged in three (3) pound bags with a UPC of 60580600123-9
  • Green Giant Fresh Whole Yellow Onions, packaged in five (5) pound bags with a UPC of 60580600170-3
  • Green Giant Fresh Whole White Onions, packaged in two (2) pound bags with a UPC of 60580600218-2
  • Green Giant Fresh Whole Red Onions, packaged in two (2) pound bags with a UPC of 60580600248-9

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Green Giant Fresh Onions are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all US states from July 9 to August 6, 2021 although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country and/or for longer time periods. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Potandon Produce has recalled certain batch/lots of Fresh Onions from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. The company initiated this recall after one of its ingredient suppliers reported it is conducting a recall of its Fresh Onions due to the potential presence of Salmonella bacteria. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the any of the recalled Green Giant Onions or Meals containing Green Giant Onions identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Green Giant Onions or Green Giant Meals containing Fresh Onions, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, please dispose of the Fresh Onions in your household trash making sure that small children and pets cannot access the discarded food products.

Please note: while these food products may be close to or past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these products during the period of July 9 and August 6, 2021, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.
