Gwillimdale Farms Fresh Onion Recall [Canada]

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Fresh Onions imported from Mexico are subject to this recall:

  • Gwillimdale Farms branded Fresh Onions, sold in two (2) pound (907 gram) bags with a UPC of 6 28250 41454 7 and a following batch/lot date:
    • 07/09/21
    • 07/13/21
    • 07/14/21
    • 07/15/21
    • 07/16/21
    • 07/19/21
    • 07/20/21
  • Gwillimdale Farms branded Fresh Onions, sold in three (3) pound (1.36 kilogram) bags with a UPC of 6 28250 41455 4 and a following batch/lot date:
    • 07/16/21
    • 07/19/21
  • Gwillimdale Farms branded Fresh Onions, sold in five (5) pound (2.27 kilogram) bags with a UPC of 6 28250 41456 1 and a following batch/lot date:
    • 07/13/21
    • 07/15/21
    • 07/16/21
    • 07/19/21

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Fresh Onions were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Gwillimdale Farms has recalled certain batch/lots of Gwillimdale Farms branded Fresh Onions from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Fresh Onions identified above.

This recall was initiated after a recall by Prosource Produce LLC of Hailey, Idaho, a primary ingredient supplier of Gwillimdale Farms. At press time, Prosource Produce was at the center of a Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak from Onions imported from State of Chihuahua, Mexico. Proposed Remedy:
==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
