X-Lite Mini Electronic Lighter Recall [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: X-Lite Corporation, a Markham, Ontario establishment and Dorfin Inc., a St. Laurent, Quebec establishment, recall an estimated 157,500 X-Lite Mini Electronic Lighters from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected failure to meet Canadian Lighter regulations and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Electronic Lighters are subject to this recall:

  • X-Lite Mini Electronic Lighters, marketed, sold and delivered with a model designation of XLC-8500S, a batch/lot of 20E and a UPC of 8 77318 00092 9. These Lighters were known to have been sold in Canada on dates ranging from September 2020 to October 2021.
  • X-Lite Mini Electronic Lighters, marketed, sold and delivered with a model designation of XLC-8500S, a batch/lot of 21C and a UPC of 8 77318 00092 9. These Lighters were known to have been sold in Canada on dates ranging from September 2020 to October 2021.

==> No manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Electronic Lighters were thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these home products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, its sampling and evaluation program has determined the recalled Lighters do not meet the Canada’s Lighters Regulations and may pose a fire or burn hazard. Specifically, the Lighters:

  • May exceed the allowable flame height during ignition;
  • May exhibit an abnormal, sudden increase in flame height;

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled X-Lite Mini Electronic Lighters, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact contact X-Lite Corporation for a free replacement.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse.
