Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”), an Ottawa, Ontario-based statutory regulatory and food safety authority, has recalled all current batch/lots of Big Bull, Peak Fresh Produce, Sierra Madre, Markon First Crop., Markon Essentials, Rio Blue, ProSource, Rio Valley and Sysco Imperial branded White, Yellow and Red Whole Raw Onions from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following White, Yellow and Red Whole Raw Onions are subject to this recall:

  • Big Bull, Peak Fresh Produce, Sierra Madre, Markon First Crop., Markon Essentials, Rio Blue, ProSource, Rio Valley and Sysco Imperial branded White, Yellow and Red Whole Raw Onions and distributed to wholesalers, broadline foodservice customers and retail stores in 50-pound., 25-pound, 10-pound, 5-pound, 3-pound and 2-pound mesh sacks as well as 50-pound, 40-pound, 25-pound, 10-pound and 5-pound cartons,

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These White, Yellow and Red Whole Raw Onions were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. In addition, the same White, Yellow and Red Whole Raw Onions have been recalled and withdrawn from sale by the US FDA in the following American states of AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA and WI, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within both countries. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, it has recalled all current batch/lots of Big Bull, Peak Fresh Produce, Sierra Madre, Markon First Crop., Markon Essentials, Rio Blue, ProSource, Rio Valley and Sysco Imperial branded White, Yellow and Red Whole Raw Onions from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled White, Yellow and Red Whole Raw Onions identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled White, Yellow and Red Whole Raw Onions, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Whole Raw Onions to the store where you purchased it for a full refund or throw them out in your household trash.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
