According to the FDA, Ivar’s Soup and Sauce Company has recalled an estimated 14,968 sleeves of refrigerated Kettle Classic Clam Chowder products with Uncured Bacon sold at Costco, from the American marketplace due to suspected presence of hard, sharp opaque plastic fragments. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Clam Chowder identified above.

In general, if bone, glass, metal, plastic and/or rubber fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

This recall was initiated after a consumer found a piece of plastic in the container they purchased and notified Ivar’s. The piece of plastic found by the consumer is in the shape of a half circle with some of the center missing, with edges that are sharp and pointed. The diameter of the circle is approximately 1-1/2″. The company reports that it is possible that the remainder of the circular plastic is a similarly intact piece or numerous smaller pieces.

Proposed Remedy:
