US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Butterball, LLC, a Mount Olive, North Carolina establishment, recalls an estimated 14,107 pounds of Farm to Family Butterball branded All Natural Ground Turkey and Kroger branded Ground Turkey products from the American marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment and consequential risks of risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Ground Turkey products are subject to this recall:

  • Farm to Family Butterball All Natural Ground Turkey, sold in 2.5-pound trays with a case code of 0211271, a sell-or-freeze-by date of 10/18/2021, and with a timestamp ranging from 2123 through 2302 printed on the packaging.
  • Kroger Ground Turkey, sold in 3-pound trays with a case code pf 50211271, a sell or freeze by date of 10/17/2021, and with a timestamp ranging from 2314 through 2351 printed on the packaging.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Ground Turkey products are thought to be marketed, distributed and sold in all US states although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the USDA, Butterball has recalled an estimated 14,107 pounds of Farm to Family Butterball branded All Natural Ground Turkey and Kroger branded Ground Turkey products from the American marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ground Turkey products identified above.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P-7345” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

The problem was discovered when US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) and the establishment received consumer complaints reporting pieces of blue plastic embedded in Raw Ground Turkey produced by Est. 7345.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Ground Turkey products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction.
