Among the ninety-three (93) recalls the NHTSA announced in September came news of the following:

Logo - Mazda North American OperationMazda North American Operation (“Mazda”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Mazda Motor Corporation of Hiroshima, Japan, has recalled an estimated 13,891 model year 2009-2011 Mazda RX-8 and 2006-2007 MazdaSpeed6 vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Fuel System, Gasoline – Fuel may leak from Fuel Pump Mounting Rings

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V744000 reports fuel may leak from the Fuel Pump Mounting Rings.

According to the NHTSA, a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, scalds, blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Mazda Dealers will install new Fuel Pump Mounting Rings. Dealers will also add a Thermal Insulation Pad to the Fuel Tank on RX-8 vehicles. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 23, 2021. Owners may contact Mazda Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-222-5500, Option 4 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Mazda’s designation for this recall is 5121I.
