Canada/Ottawa: Bayer Inc., a Mississauga, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Tinactin branded Chill Deodorant Powder Spray, Tinactin branded Aerosol Powder and Tinactin branded Chill Liquid Spray from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Benzene contamination and consequential risks of Cancers of the Blood and Blood-Forming Tissues, including the Bone Marrow and the Lymphatic System including Leukemia, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Tinactin Chill Deodorant Powder Spray products are subject to this recall:

  • Tinactin Chill Deodorant Powder Spray, with a DIN of 02319276 comprising of Tolnaftate 1%/W/W with a batch/lot of TN00089 or TN0053X
  • Tinactin Aerosol Powder, with a DIN of 00576050 comprising of Tolnaftate 1%/W/W with a batch/lot of TN003J0, TN0057M or TN00798
  • Tinactin Chill Liquid Spray, with a DIN of 02319314 comprising of Tolnaftate 1%/W/W with a batch/lot of TN0044M

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Tinactin branded Chill Deodorant Powder Spray marketed, sold and delivered as a treatment for a fungal condition commonly called Athlete’s Foot and are thought to be have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, Bayer Inc. has recalled certain batch/lots of Tinactin branded Chill Deodorant Powder Spray, Tinactin branded Aerosol Powder and Tinactin branded Chill Liquid Spray from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Benzene contamination.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Tinactin, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any drug, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Benzene contamination.
