Canada/Ottawa: Home Hardware, a St. Jacobs, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 1,584,385 Home branded and Recochem branded TSP Powder All Purpose Cleaners from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected failure to meet Canadian labelling and child-resistant packaging requirements for Quick Skin-Bonding Adhesives required by Canada’s Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act and consequential risks of poisoning, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and death, all serious health and safety hazards.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain TSP Powder All Purpose Cleaners products, as follows:

• Home branded Trisodium Phosphate (“TSP”) All-Purpose Cleaner, sold in 1.81 kilogram containers with an item number of 1620-188 and a UPC of 822733052879
• Home branded Trisodium Phosphate (“TSP”) All-Purpose Cleaner, sold in 400 gram containers with an item number of 1620-017 and a UPC of 822733052862
• Recochem branded Trisodium Phosphate (“TSP”) All Purpose Heavy Duty Cleaner and Degreaser sold in 900 gram containers with an item number of 12-111 and a UPC of 056438121114
• Recochem branded Trisodium Phosphate (“TSP”) All Purpose Heavy Duty Cleaner and Degreaser sold in 1.81 kilogram containers with an item number of 12-116 and a UPC of 056438121169
• Recochem branded Trisodium Phosphate (“TSP”) All Purpose Heavy Duty Cleaner and Degreaser sold in 400 gram containers with an item number of 32-101H and a UPC of 822733052862
• Recochem branded Trisodium Phosphate (“TSP”) All Purpose Heavy Duty Cleaner and Degreaser sold in 1.81 kilogram containers with an item number of 32-116H and a UPC of 822733052879
• Recochem branded Trisodium Phosphate (“TSP”) All Purpose Heavy Duty Cleaner and Degreaser, sold in 400 gram containers with an item number of 12-101 and a UPC of 056438121015

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Cleaning products are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these Cleaning products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information. The affected products were sold from at least May 1998 to September 2021.

According to Health Canada, the recalled Cleaner products do not meet the labelling and child-resistant packaging requirements for adhesives required by the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. The lack of child-resistant packaging could result in unintentional exposure to these products and lead to serious illness, injury or death.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Home branded and Recochem branded TSP Powder All Purpose Cleaners, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the place of purchase for a refund or safely dispose of them in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements.

Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect your personal safety, the local drinking water supply and the ecosystem. Please consult your local municipal waste authority for the correct steps for your particular community.

Please note: the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
