Among the thirty-eight (38) recalls the European Union announced in its fourth (and final) report of September 2021, the following recall notification was made:

Hasbro branded My Little Pony Plush Children's Toy Recall [EU]

Hasbro branded My Little Pony Plush Children’s Toys packaged with a model designation of HSHB9819, a batch/lot number of CO106/B9819Asst and a barcode/EAN of 010993388707. This recall alert was submitted by Croatia to the EU Safety Gateway.

These Hasbro branded My Little Pony Plush Children’s Toys products are marketed, sold and delivered as small children’s toys for use in the home or at preschool environments. The Plush Children’s Toys are bright yellow in colour, have black, white and green sewn-in eyes with exaggerated seamed eyelashes and a “My Little Pony” cloth tag sewn into their hind quarters. The Toy may come with a small cardboard tag to be removed after sale that identifies the Pony’s name as “Applejack” with a Hasbro label and a “3+” age designation.

No item numbers, best-before date codes, model numbers, manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Hasbro branded My Little Pony Plush Children’s Toy products includes the reported finding that due to structural seam weakness on the head portion of the Toy, small parts (specifically, the mane of the Pony) are easily detachable. If this defect occurs, a child may put the small parts in the mouth with consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis.

Due to these defects, the recalled Hasbro branded My Little Pony Plush Children’s Toy products do not reportedly comply with the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-1.

As a result of these reported defects, a ban on marketing of the recalled Hasbro branded My Little Pony Plush Children’s Toy products from the European marketplace has been ordered.
