US NHTSA Recalls: Starcraft Recreational Vehicles

Among the seventy (70) recalls the NHTSA has announced in September comes news of the following:

Logo - Starcraft RV ("Starcraft")Starcraft RV (“Starcraft”), a Middlebury, Indiana establishment and a subsidiary of Jayco also of Middlebury, Indiana and itself a subsidiary of Thor Industries, has recalled an estimated 1,512 model 2021-2022 Starcraft Autumn Ridge Outfitter, 2021 Starcraft Super Lite and Starcraft Telluride Recreational Vehicles (“RVs”), marketed, sold and delivered in the United States with Winntec model 6020 Two-Stage Propane Regulators.

Recall Category: Equipment – Propane Regulator may fail and cause fire

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V687000 reports the Regulator may fail, causing an increase in propane pressure.

According to the NHTSA, increased propane pressure can enlarge the flames in gas appliances, increasing the risk of a fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Starcraft RV replace the Regulator and test the Propane System for leaks, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 1, 2021. Owners may contact Starcraft Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-283-8267 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
