Additional information:

Among the fifty-eight (58) recalls the NHTSA has announced in September comes news of the following:

Logo - Takata (TK Global LLC)Takata (TK Global LLC), a Tokyo, Japan establishment that has ceased trading and is currently a subsidiary of Joyson Safety Systems of Auburn Hills, Michigan, has recalled an estimated 67,323 Non-Azide Driver-Side Air Bag Inflators (“NADIs”) marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Air Bags – Air Bag Inflators may explode or underinflate Air Bag

NHTSA Safety Notification 21E082000 reports these Inflators were used by certain vehicle manufacturers and included in recall expansions under NHTSA numbers 21V-401 and 21V-470. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI Inflators may absorb moisture, causing the Inflators to explode or the Air Bag Cushion to underinflate during operation.

According to the NHTSA, during Air Bag deployment, an Inflator explosion may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other vehicle occupants. An underinflated Air Bag may not properly protect the occupant. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of serious injury or death particularly, not limited to, a incident involving a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.
