US NHTSA Recalls: Chevrolet Equinox & GMC Terrain SUVs

Among the one-hundred-and-fourteen (114) recalls the NHTSA announced in August came news of the following:

Logo - General Motors LLC ("GM")General Motors LLC (“GM”), a Detroit, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 7,082 model year 2021-2022 Chevrolet Equinox Sport Utility Vehicles (“SUVs”) and GMC Terrain SUVs equipped with certain Hankook Tires marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Tires – Tire Tread Separation

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V612000 reports the recalled Tires may have been manufactured with an insufficient amount of curative agent, which could cause tread separation.

According to the NHTSA, Tread separation can result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Logo - Chevrolet==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries, burns, scalds, blast injury, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory and/or cardiac injury.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Chevrolet snd GMC Dealers will inspect the tire DOT numbers, and replace any affected Tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 31, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-462-8782 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. GM’s designation for this recall is N212343560.
