US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Baker Farms, a Hurtsboro, Alabama establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Baker Farms branded Fresh Kale, Kroger branded Fresh Kale and SEG Grocers branded Fresh Kale products from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards/situations requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-changing injury.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Kale Salad products are subject to this recall:

  • Baker Farms Fresh Kale, sold in one (1) pound cello bags with a best-by date of 09-18-2021, a production code of 107020-21832 and a UPC of 8 13098 02001 6
  • Kroger Fresh Kale, sold in one (1) pound cello bags with a best-by date of 09-18-2021, a production code of 107020-21832 and a UPC of 0 11110 18170 1
  • SEG Grocers Fresh Kale, sold in one (1) pound cello bags with a best-by date of 09-18-2021, a production code of 107020-21832 and a UPC of 0 38259 11482 7

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Baker Farms branded Fresh Kale, Kroger branded Fresh Kale and SEG Grocers branded Fresh Kale products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the states of AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MO, MS, NC, NY and VA, although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Baker Farms has recalled certain batch/lots of Baker Farms branded Fresh Kale, Kroger branded Fresh Kale and SEG Grocers branded Fresh Kale products from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. On September 16, 2021, the firm was notified by a customer that the Kale Salad product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Kale products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Baker Farms branded Fresh Kale, Kroger branded Fresh Kale and SEG Grocers branded Fresh Kale products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Kale to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Listeriosis.
