Canada/Ottawa: Toy Land Company, a Vancouver, British Columbia establishment, recalls an estimated 924 Rattlesnake Egg Singing Magnet Toy Sets from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected failure to meet the magnetic force requirements of Canada’s Toys Regulations and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize suffering and prevent life-changing injury.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Magnetic Toy Sets are subject to this recall:

  • Rattlesnake Egg Singing Magnet Toy Sets, containing two (2) Hematite “Snake Eggs” magnets in each pack with an item designation of G5AP 167

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

No barcodes, UPCs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Rattlesnake Egg Singing Magnet Toy Sets are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these toy products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the importer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, it has determined that theRattlesnake Egg Singing Magnet Toy Sets may not meet the magnetic force requirements of Canada’s Toys Regulations and pose a consequential ingestion hazard.

If a child swallows more than one small high powered Magnet, components of these Toys can stick together across the walls of the child’s intestine or other digestive tissue, which can lead to internal injuries and even death. These ingested Magnets may need emergency surgical intervention to remove. Further, the magnets may pose a choking hazard to young children due to small parts. Even post ingestion, survivors can have long-term health consequences requiring medical care and rehabilitation.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Rattlesnake Egg Singing Magnet Toy Sets, please do not use them nor let your child play with or near them. Instead, kindly ensure that all pieces are accounted for and contact your local municipality for instructions on how to dispose of or recycle these products. You can also contact Toy Land for a refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction and/or sepsis.

Please note: the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
