Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: JB Nicholas and Son, a Geeveston, Tasmania establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Premium Tasmanian Smoked Ham Meat products from the Australian marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards/situations requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize suffering and prevent life-changing injury.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Smoked Ham Meat products are subject to this recall:

  • Premium Tasmanian Smoked Ham Meat products, packaged in 250 gram vacuum bags with a use-by date code of 16OCT21 with the following GTIN/barcodes:
    • Hill Street Grocer: 02 10029 008950
    • Tasmania IGA: 02 05123 008951
    • Victoria IGA: 9 306001 0000101

==> No barcodes, APNs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Smoked Ham Meat products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Australian states of Tasmania and Victoria although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the ACCC, JB Nicholas and Son has recalled certain batch/lots of Premium Tasmanian Smoked Ham Meat products from the Australian marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Smoked Ham Meat products identified above.

==> For information about Listeriosis (Listeria poisoning), please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Premium Tasmanian Smoked Ham Meat products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the Ham product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Listeriosis.
