Among the twenty-eight (28) recalls the European Union announced in its fourth (and final) report of August 2021, the following recall notification was made:

Naterial branded Icarus Charcoal Barbecues packaged with a model designation of 11500251 and a barcode/EAN of 3276000413639. This recall alert was submitted by Romania to the EU Safety Gateway.

These Naterial branded Icarus Charcoal Barbecue products are marketed, sold and delivered as consumer grade outdoor cooking appliances suitable for family home use. Each of the recalled Barbecues measure approximately 134 cm by 58 cm by 91 cm and sold with a black and silver finish with an integrated Cooking Cart. The Cart has two (2) wheels at one end for movement and legs at the other end for stability.

No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Naterial branded Icarus Charcoal Barbecue products include the reported finding that the horizontal surface of the Barbecue becomes too hot during normal cooking operations. According to the recall, the surfaces can reach an estimated temperature of 87°C above the ambient temperature. The EU limit is set at 50°C.

In addition, the Grill is reportedly difficult to manipulate and safely use under normal loading conditions. As a consequence, an operator of the recalled Barbecue could suffer burns and the product could cause fires with consequential risks of smoke inhalation, life-changing injuries and property damage.

Due to these defects, the recalled Naterial branded Icarus Charcoal Barbecues do not comply with the requirements of Europe’s General Product Safety Directive as well as the relevant European standard EN 1860-1.

Consequently, a withdrawal of the of these Naterial branded Icarus Charcoal Barbecue products from the European marketplace has been ordered.
